Don Spencer, vice president of the Oklahoma 2nd Amendment Association and Rep. John Bennett hold the Patriot Legislator Award presented to Bennett this week.
Rep. John Bennett this week received the Patriot Legislator Award, given by the Oklahoma 2nd Amendment Association.
The award is given “in recognition of the legislator who aggressively defends the God-given right of the individual to self-preservation and actively supports and defends the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.”
“I am a strong advocate for our Second Amendment rights,” said Bennett, R-Sallisaw. “It’s obvious our Founding Fathers made this the Second Amendment to our Constitution because without it there is no way to protect the other amendments from being taken over by a tyrannical government or by dictators.
“I have authored and co-authored numerous bills to ensure we protect these rights, and I will continue to be a staunch defender of these rights as long as I live.”
The Oklahoma 2nd Amendment Association maintains a daily presence at the state Capitol during the legislative session, bringing together legislators, attorneys, law professors and Second Amendment experts to craft public policy. The group also provides research to legislators and seeks to educate lawmakers, the public and the media on the nation’s founders’ intent concerning the Second Amendment.
Bennett was one of only three state representatives to receive an A++ rating on the association’s legislative scorecard for the combined years of 2015 and 2016.
