Lankford Calls for Communication Breakdown Details from Secret Service Director

During Tuesday’s U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and Judiciary Committees’ joint hearing with the Secret Service’s Acting Director and the FBI Deputy Director, U.S. Senator James Lankford wanted details about a communication breakdown during the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump. He was focused on the 30 seconds of radio communications between the time a local officer spotted the suspect on the roof with a gun and when the gunman fired shots at Trump on July 13.

During the exchange with Deputy Director Paul Abbate, Lankford zeroed in on the time which an officer was climbing on the roof and saw the suspect with a rifle. After falling back when Thomas Matthew Crooks pointed the gun at him, the officer radioed back about the gun. Abbate did not have the specifics but agreed to share transcripts with Lankford.
