Mullin’s Traumatic Brain Injury Program Bill Passes Senate Committee

Using his family’s personal experience with his son’s brain injury, U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin has been working to pass the Traumatic Brain Injury Program Reauthorization Act through the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee. Senator Bob Casey is co-leading the effort with Mullin to pass the bill.

Mullin’s son suffered a traumatic brain injury four years ago.

“In 2020, my family’s life changed in an instant when our son Jim, who was 15 at the time, suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury while wrestling. While we are on the other side of recovery thanks to the experts at the Center for Neuro Skills in Bakersfield, California, and the grace of God, not all patients who suffer TBIs are so lucky.

“This reauthorization will ensure the millions of Americans who suffer traumatic brain injuries and those suffering from long-term disabilities because of the injury have the support and resources necessary to navigate recovery,” said Mullin.

The legislation reauthorizes three grant programs to help increase access to rehabilitation and community services, state advocacy programs, and research.

Mullin is now encouraging Senate Leader Chuck Schumer to bring the bill to the Senate floor for a vote.
