Lankford Joins Effort to Remove Statute of Limitation from Spying Prosecutions

U.S. Senator James Lankford is joining U.S. Senators Marco Rubio and John Cornyn to introduce legislation which would remove the statute of limitations from prosecuting anti-American espionage. The bill is called the Strengthening Prosecution Integrity for Espionage Statutes (SPIES) Act.

“Spies who target our nation’s national security should be held accountable, no matter how long ago it happened. Oklahomans want to know bad actors will face consequences. The SPIES Act ensures every spy knows America will never stop pursuing them,” said Lankford.

The group is pointing to the recent guilty plea by Former U.S. Ambassador Manuel Rocha who spied for the Cuban regime. Some of his crimes went undiscovered for decades.
