One of Congress’s most important responsibilities each year is passing the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Last week, the House passed the Fiscal Year 2027 NDAA, a bill that supports our service members, strengthens our national security, and ensures our military remains ready to meet the challenges of an increasingly dangerous world.
This year’s NDAA helps ensure our military is prepared to deter and defeat the adversaries of today and tomorrow. The bill builds on the progress of last year’s NDAA by streamlining Department of War programs and cutting $30M in wasteful programs. It also accelerates the development of next-generation technologies, including quantum computing, hypersonic weapons, and autonomous systems, helping ensure our military stays ahead of evolving threats.
Supporting our service members also means investing in their quality of life. The FY27 NDAA includes a five to seven percent pay raise, providing well-earned financial support for the men and women who serve our country. Improving pay has been a hallmark of Chairman Mike Rogers’ time leading the Armed Services committee and this NDAA is the third in a row to address pay issues within our military. The legislation also improves military housing, education, and access to childcare, giving military families the support they deserve.
Just as importantly, this bill helps ensure our military remains the strongest fighting force in the world. By advancing more than 65 of President Trump’s Executive Orders, the FY27 NDAA provides the resources needed to build a ready, capable, and lethal military. We must ensure our military has the resources needed to compete with near-peer adversaries across the globe.
Our service members answer the call to defend our nation every day. Congress has a responsibility to ensure they have the support, equipment, and resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively. The House has done its job by passing the FY27 NDAA, and I urge my colleagues in the Senate to do the same.
