Federal Audit Puts Additional Spotlight on State Dept of Ed Spending

A new federal report looking at spending by the State Department of Education indicates there are issues with compliance and quality concerns that require urgent attention.

This comes as the Legislative Office of Financial Transparency is looking at spending issues with programs created and funded by the Legislature.

Tulsa World’s Lenzy Krehbiel-Burton and Andrea Eger write out of 52 indicators reviewed, 32 were deemed out of compliance.

A State Department of Education spokesman says many of the concerns raised by the U.S. Department of Education’s report have been addressed or are being addressed.
