Stitt Orders Flags at Half Staff to Commemorate National Fentanyl Prevention Day

As deaths mount due to fentanyl overdoses, Governor Kevin Stitt is joining a national effort to bring more awareness to the issue. On Wednesday, he ordered flags at half staff in recognition of National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day.

“Sarah and I’s hearts go out to the families who’ve been devastated by an overdose or are struggling with addiction. The fentanyl crisis has affected all of us. My administration is committed to working with healthcare professionals, law enforcement, and community leaders to uplift Oklahoma families and fight back against the epidemic,” said Governor Stitt.

National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day observances are being coordinated by Virgina First Lady Suzanne Youngkin and New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy as a part of Youngkin’s It Only Takes One campaign.

First Lady Sarah Stitt supports the efforts to curb fentanyl overdoses.

“By raising awareness and working together as a community, we can prevent fentanyl-related tragedies and forge a safer, brighter future for Oklahoma. We can’t shy away from having tough conversations on addiction and drug abuse. I invite Oklahomans to join us in educating ourselves and building strong support networks so we can protect our families and loved ones from fentanyl,” said First Lady Stitt.

The group also will observe International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31.
