State Board of Ed Releases Reasons for Certificate Revocation to Federal Judge

The federal judge demanding to know the reasons for the State Board of Education and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters suspending a teacher’s license in a high-profile case received those answers this week.

The Oklahoman’s Jordan Gerard writes the Board and Walters say they voted to revoke former Norman High School teacher Summer Boismier’s license because she violated three conduct rules for performance and standards, not because of alleged violations of House Bill 1775. That law restricts certain types of instruction concerning race and gender.

The federal judge is overseeing the lawsuit challenging HB 1775.

Boismier came under fire when Walters was the State Secretary of Education when she posted a QR code to the Brooklyn Public Library with a sign that read, “books the state doesn’t want you to read.”
