Senate Republicans voted by acclamation on Monday to re-elect Brian Bingman as President Pro Tempore of the Senate.
Bingman, R-Sapulpa, is now President Pro Tempore-Designate for the 54th Legislature. Bingman continues to serve as Senate President Pro Tempore through the end of the 53rd Legislature in 2012.
Majority Leader Mike Schulz said Bingman has been an effective leader as lawmakers have worked to promote Oklahoma’s economic recovery with a pro-jobs agenda.
Senator Sean Burrage, Democratic Leader of the Senate, praised Bingman: “I am genuinely pleased that Brian Bingman will continue in his role as President Pro Tempore of the State Senate for another two years. While we may differ on policy issues, he is a great friend and an asset to the State Senate and to Oklahoma. I want to offer my sincere congratulations to Senator Bingman, and I look forward to continuing to work with him in the 54th Legislature.”
