Oklahoma is the first state to implement a tax credit for family caregivers, and now the Oklahoma House is encouraging to follow suit on the federal level.
The Caring for Caregivers Act provides a tax credit for up to $3,000 annually to qualified residents.
Representative Tammy West introduced House Concurrent Resolution 1009 to encourage Oklahoma’s congressional delegation to sign onto the recently introduced Credit for Caring Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. That measure creates a $5,000 federal tax credit for caregivers.
West also proposed Oklahoma’s caregiver tax credit.
“Whenever someone cares for a loved one, unexpected out-of-pocket expenses inevitably arise,” West said. “Oklahoma led the way in recognizing and supporting this essential work and now we have the chance to lead again by advocating for national relief through the Credit for Caring Act.”
