Congressman Josh Brecheen announced Thursday he is endorsing Congressman Kevin Hern in Oklahoma’s race for the U.S. Senate, becoming the first member of the state’s congressional delegation to back Hern’s campaign.
“Today, I am endorsing Kevin Hern for the United States Senate,” Brecheen said. “We need a principle based U.S. Senator who is fully prepared to take on the duty at this critical juncture for our nation. I believe that person is Kevin Hern.”
Brecheen said he has come to respect Hern’s approach to governing during their time serving together in Congress, pointing to Hern’s willingness to challenge colleagues and push for fiscal discipline.
“I’ve seen him, behind the scenes, speak uncomfortable truths to our Republican conference when it would have been politically easier not to create waves,” Brecheen said. “His actions and votes prove that he fully knows the fiscal peril our nation is facing and that more courageous decisions are required.”
Brecheen also said he believes Hern will support President Donald Trump’s policy agenda and represent Oklahoma’s interests in Washington.
Hern welcomed the endorsement, calling Brecheen a strong advocate for Oklahoma.
“I’m grateful to have Congressman Brecheen’s support,” Hern said. “Josh has been a strong advocate for Oklahoma and a fearless defender of conservative values, and I’m proud to have him in this fight.”
