Mullin’s Nomination Moved to Full Senate

It was U.S. Senator John Fetterman’s vote which made the difference for U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin’s nomination to be the next Secretary of Homeland Security to move forward.

The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs voted 8 to 7 on Thursday to push Mullin’s nomination to the full Senate.

It took less than five minutes for the Committee to take the vote.

The only comments came from Ranking Member Senator Gary Peters, who contends that Mullin’s pattern of behavior is not suited to lead the beleaguered Department of Homeland Security. The funding for the agency is being held up due to an impasse between Senate Democrats and Republicans on reforms for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. With no budget in place for DHS, it means some federal workers are going without paycheck.

Mullin’s nomination could be heard on the Senate floor next week.
