House Advances FY 2027 Budget Bill

The Oklahoma House advanced the general appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2027.

The measure, Senate Bill 1177, passed the House 76-18 and outlines funding for state agencies, including increased investments in education, mental health and health care.

The budget includes a $232 million increase for common education, supporting teacher pay raises and early literacy and math initiatives.

House Speaker Kyle Hilbert called the plan a balanced approach to spending and priorities.

“This budget reflects our commitment to investing in Oklahoma’s future while remaining responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars,” Hilbert said.

House Appropriations and Budget Chairman Trey Caldwell said the process focused on transparency and long-term improvements.

“Every detail of this budget is about making Oklahoma better than it was the year before,” Caldwell said.

House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson criticized the plan, arguing it falls short of addressing key needs.

“What makes a budget historic is funding public education that gets us out of last in the nation, ensuring not a single person is cut from Medicaid, and using every extra dollar we have to provide real tax relief for working Oklahomans,” Munson said.

The bill now heads to the governor.
