Sports Betting Bill Stopped in Senate

The Oklahoma Senate rejected House Bill 1047 which would have put Oklahoma on the path to legalize sports betting. The bill’s language was the result of a compromise between the authors, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and most gaming tribes.

Oklahoma Voice’s Barbara Hoberock writes that the tribes would have paid the state 8-percent of the earnings from sports betting and create a framework for the tribes to work with mobile sports betting operators.

The bill failed by a vote of 21 to 27. Senator Bill Coleman did make a procedural move to possibly bring the bill back up for another vote.
