Former Oklahoma House Speaker T.W. Shannon holds a commanding lead in the Republican primary for lieutenant governor, according to new polling from Cole Hargrave Snodgrass & Associates.
Shannon leads the field at 42 percent, ahead of Oklahoma Representative Justin “JJ” Humphrey at 7 percent and Oklahoma Senator Darrell Weaver at 6 percent. Businessman David Ostrowe, a recent entrant into the race, registers at 2 percent.
Shannon’s advantage extends across key segments of the Republican electorate. Among voters with household incomes above $200,000, Shannon’s support climbs to 59 percent. Among consistent primary voters who have participated in the last five Republican primaries, he holds 46 percent support, 38 points ahead of his nearest competitor in that group.
The data also indicates Shannon is drawing support from across different factions within the party. He performs similarly among voters identifying as Trump Republicans and those considered more traditional Republicans. Among Republicans with a favorable view of Governor Kevin Stitt, Shannon earns 48 percent support, compared to 36 percent among those with an unfavorable view.
Shannon entered the race as an early frontrunner and has expanded his lead since Oklahoma State Auditor Cindy Byrd exited the contest. A January poll from the same firm showed Shannon at 39 percent, with Byrd at 23 percent, followed by Humphrey at 6 percent and Weaver at 3 percent.
The poll also shows a sizable portion of the electorate remains undecided. Among Republicans who view former President Donald Trump favorably, 37 percent have not yet chosen a candidate, leaving room for additional movement in the race.
