Holt, Sanders Join Bush For Bridge Naming

Senator David Holt and Rep. Mike Sanders have presented former President George W. Bush with a momento of the naming of a bridge in his honor.

The legislators presented President Bush with a replica of the sign that will be placed at the southbound Interstate 44 bridge over the Red River. The Oklahoma Legislature approved the naming in 2011.

            “Oklahomans remain grateful for President Bush’s courage, and we are glad that we had this opportunity to communicate that personally,” said Holt (R-Oklahoma City).

            “We were deeply honored to represent the people of Oklahoma today, and President Bush definitely appreciated it very much,” said Sanders (R-Kingfisher).

            In 2011, Holt authored Senate Bill 304, for which Sanders served as the author in the Oklahoma House. The bill named the southbound Interstate 44 bridge over the Red River the “President George W. Bush Bridge.” The bill passed the Legislature with wide bipartisan support and was signed into law by Governor Mary Fallin on May 2, 2011. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is currently creating the sign and expects it to be in place at the bridge within the next two weeks.

            Holt served in the White House of President George W. Bush from 2002 to 2004 and coordinated the president’s Oklahoma re-election efforts in 2004. Sanders served President Bush during his 2000 campaign. He also served at the White House as Director of Interns from 2001 to 2004 and in the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a Political Appointee from 2004 to 2007.
