Cole, Lankford React to New Clinton Email Investigation

In light of the new FBI investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s possible mishandling of classified information through a private email server, Congressman Tom Cole and Senator James Lankford outlined their feelings on the matter.

Cole said Clinton should not get special treatment.

“Secretary Clinton is not above the law, and this should have been the case months ago after the FBI’s initial investigation,” said Cole. “I’m glad that the FBI has realized that their work is not done, and that Secretary Clinton’s use of her email server was irresponsible, untrustworthy and quite possibly illegal. FBI Director James Comey described her actions as ‘careless’ at the end of the initial investigation – but that sort of carelessness puts our nation at risk. I hope that the FBI conducts a thorough investigation, and that Secretary Clinton will be held to the same standard as anyone else who engage in these activities.”

Lankford renewed his call for the suspension of Clinton and her staff’s security clearance.

“Hillary Clinton has claimed for months that the FBI found no reason to prosecute her for her careless handling of classified information, but today reminds us again that the FBI can only examine what the Clinton’s have not already destroyed or hidden. As more evidence is discovered, it is obvious to the American people, and now to the FBI Director, that this investigation is far from settled. No one in the American government uses a private server at their home to conduct classified work or to store sensitive government information. All of the recent Wikileaks emails remind us that unsecure servers are vulnerable to theft and exploitation by United States enemies. Americans who have served our nation are rightly frustrated that Hillary Clinton put her political future above our national security. Today, I renew my call for the suspension of Hillary Clinton’s and her staff’s security clearances, just like any other person under this type of investigation.”

According to several media reports, the FBI is opening an investigation after finding possible wrongdoing by Clinton and her staff during its investigation of former Congressman Andrew Weiner. His wife is Clinton assistant Huma Abedin. He’s being investigated for sending illicit text messages to a minor.
