Walters Chairs First Board of Education Meeting, Moves New Budget Proposal Forward

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters chaired his first State Board of Education meeting on Thursday, presenting a new budget for the next fiscal year.

Tulsa World’s Andrea Eger writes the revised budget includes $150 million for teacher incentive pay and $100 million for early-grade reading instruction.

The budget request is $59.6 million less than requested by former State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister. It is still an increase over the current budget.
