Oklahoma Senator Darrell Weaver is throwing his hat into the ring to be the next Oklahoma Lieutenant governor. The Republican has been in the Senate since 2018. He did not draw an opponent in his previous election.
Of course, Weaver also is known for his law enforcement credentials. He was with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangers Drugs Control for 28 years. He was the director of the agency during his last nine years there.
“Combining my law enforcement and legislative service with my business experience will allow me to be an effective Lieutenant governor working to address the pressing problems facing Oklahomans,” Weaver said.
Weaver currently sits on the Senate Committees for appropriations, general government and transportation, aeronautics and transportation, business and insurance, public safety, and rules.
Additionally, Weaver has served on various law enforcement boards and commissions.
“It is an honor and privilege to serve in the State Senate. With my common sense conservative approach to governing, I have championed legislation dealing with many issues, such as public safety, victims’ rights, small business, and Second Amendment rights. I have strongly advocated for our growing aerospace industry and the need to enhance economic and workforce development and promote tourism opportunities,” Weaver said.
Current Lt Governor Matt Pinnell is term-limited leaving the seat open.
Oklahoma Auditor and Inspector Cindy Byrd also is running for the Republican nomination in the Lt. Governor’s Race.
