Tipton Explains Decision to Pull OHP Troopers Out of Metro Areas

Oklahoma Department of Public Safety Commissioner Tim Tipton held a press conference on Thursday explaining why the Oklahoma Highway Patrol is pulling troopers out of metro areas and moving them to rural areas.

While saying it was not an easy decision, the Commissioner said that changing traffic patterns where there is an increasing number of drivers on rural highways throughout the state.

Oklahoma Voice’s Emma Murphy writes that at least three lawmakers have criticized the plan. Currently, the Highway Patrol has 589 troopers spread across the state.
