Gatz to Retire From ODOT

Tim Gatz will retire as executive director of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation on October 31, with Chief Engineer TJ Dill taking over as interim director.

Gatz will remain secretary of transportation through the remainder of Gov. Kevin Stitt’s term.

“Tim has been with my administration since the very beginning, and he’s been my go-to on every road, bridge, and turnpike question for nearly eight years,” Stitt said.

Gatz began his ODOT career in 1990 as a drafting technician and later served as deputy director. He has been Stitt’s transportation secretary since 2019.

Stitt credited Gatz with helping improve Oklahoma’s bridges, saying the state now ranks fourth nationally for bridge conditions.

Dill has worked in several roles at ODOT since 2013. As chief engineer since 2024, he has overseen statewide engineering and operational functions.

“TJ has spent his career working to improve infrastructure across Oklahoma,” Stitt said. “I’m thankful that he has stepped up to lead the agency after years of serving with Tim Gatz.”
