Attorney General Scott Pruitt Tuesday announced longtime prosecutor and assistant attorney general Tom Bates as the new First Assistant Attorney General. Bates will replace Rob Hudson, who begins his new job as a special judge in Logan County on Nov. 1.
“Tom is a hard-working and committed attorney who has been dedicated to justice and fairness for Oklahomans throughout his career,” Pruitt said. “We are fortunate to have attorneys like Tom in public service and I look forward to his contributions as First Assistant.”
Bates, a native Oklahoman, most recently served as chief of the Attorney General’s Public Protection Unit where he oversaw the Oklahoma Mortgage Settlement Fund, the Do Not Call Registry and was the lead assistant attorney general on all consumer protection litigation.
Bates worked in private practice for five years before joining the Attorney General’s Office in 1999. He prosecuted and litigated a variety of high profile civil and criminal cases and served as chief of the AG’s Multicounty Grand Jury Unit.
