Lankford Shrugs Off Suggestion His Campaign Is Losing Steam

Tulsa World

Fifth District Rep. James Lankford last week tried to shrug off suggestions his campaign for the U.S. Senate is flagging while former Oklahoma House Speaker T.W. Shannon’s is picking up speed.

“It’s typical politics,” Lankford said Friday.

The Hill quoted Lankford as saying the things being said about him “make me laugh” and that Shannon’s campaign managers are “masters of spin.”

Friday, Lankford downplayed his remarks but acknowledged some frustration at being portrayed as the establishment candidate after three years in Congress.

“There are people who say, ‘Anyone who has ever been elected should never be elected again,’ ” he said. “Others want to get things done.”

Last week Lankford added nationally known consultants Ed Goeas and John Brabender to his campaign team, as well as former Oklahoma Senate President Pro Tem Glenn Coffee.
