Pruitt: Obama Has No Authority To Rewrite Immigration Laws

pruitt3Commenting on the upcoming Thursday hearing in federal court in Texas on the lawsuit brought by Oklahoma and 24 other states challenging the president’s executive actions on immigration, Attorney General Scott Pruitt said the president does not have the constitutional authority to “pinch hit” for Congress to rewrite the nation’s immigration laws.

“The president cannot ‘pinch hit’ for Congress and rewrite our nation’s immigration laws through unconstitutional executive actions. The executive branch of government is charged with faithfully executing the laws as passed by the legislative branch – and in this instance, the president is ignoring his constitutional oath. Oklahoma and the other states bringing this lawsuit are working diligently to hold the president accountable and hope Thursday’s hearing brings an immediate halt to the president’s unconstitutional actions on immigration.”

At Thursday’s hearing, a federal judge will hear arguments on the states’ request for a preliminary injunction to block the president’s executive actions.
