All U.S. and Oklahoma flags on state property will be flown at half-staff this weekend to honor an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper who died Saturday while on duty, Gov. Mary Fallin announced Tuesday.

Troopers Nicholas Dees and Keith Burch were struck by a vehicle Saturday night while working a crash scene on Interstate 40 in Seminole County east of Shawnee. Dees died at the scene, and Burch remains hospitalized.

“I would like to ask all Oklahomans to join our Oklahoma Highway Patrol family in mourning the loss of Trooper Dees and to pray for the quick recovery of Trooper Burch,” Fallin said in a news release.

“Trooper Dees was very proud to be a member of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and he served the state well. He was known for his professionalism at work and his kindness towards family and friends. He will be sorely missed.”

Services for Dees are set for noon Saturday at Broken Bow High School.
