Pollard Calls For GOP Unity

Pam Pollard, whose bid to become Republican Party chairman came up short  on Saturday, has called for party unity in a Facebook post.

The longtime GOP activist and party official wrote:

I delayed in posting my response to the results of today’s OK GOP State Convention as I wanted to EAT then take some time to take it all in and see what was the true meaning behind today.

First let me say to Dave Weston and every single member of his staff what a great job you did today!!

I have personally been where you are and I know you put your whole heart and every effort into making today a success and I want to say THANK YOU for your hard work.

Until you’ve been there you don’t understand the behind-the-scenes complexity of credentialing and registering delegates to a political convention. Computers have glitches and humans make mistakes but that is how life goes.

What I took away from the convention today is that when people are treated with respect there is most often unity. There maybe differences but there is still unity in those differences.

When people feel, whether true or perceived, that they’ve been left out and disenfranchised, emotions are stirred and that’s when the unity and fellowship is broken.

I know this is going to sound strange but I am happy and have total peace with the outcome of the election today. Of course I had a fire in my belly and I still believe I was the best candidate but in all this I prayed for peace in my heart and the Lord gave me peace so I feel blessed tonight.

I will do everything I can to help support Chairman Brogdon in the next two years. He hasn’t been directly involved in party political administration and part of me chuckles when he realizes what all this job entails but I am confident that he is going to try to unite this party.

It will be up to us whether we participate in the unification of the party. I am going to participate!!

I made so many new friends and glad so many people who got to know who the person behind the name Pam Pollard really is.

To the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women that thought you were going to get rid of me, you are stuck with me till December smile emoticon

I want to close with the scripture I wanted to read today in my speech but ran out of time before I could share it with everyone.

Colossians 3:12-17

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

God bless each and everyone and I pray that you have the peace that the Lord is giving me tonight.

I admire Pam, and I appreciate her call for unity. As I listened to her at the convention, and as I read her comments now, I am reminded that unity is a two-way street. If by “party unity” we mean *mutual* respect among party members and the ability to politely discuss individual perspectives without denigrating one another, attempting to ramrod our views down everybody’s throat, and bulldoze over others to get what we want, then that will have to come from both the “libertarian movement” Republicans AND those who are not of their persuasion.

As far as I’m concerned, if someone supported Ron Paul or supports Rand Paul, or whoever, THAT’S FINE–I can respect that–work within the system and bring your ideas to the table. But by the same token, THEY need to respect us as well—don’t call the rest of us “establishment Republican R.I.N.O.’s” just because we don’t necessarily support your candidate. If Mr. Brogdon will insist on as well as model that kind of cooperation, he’ll have the support of most of the Oklahoma GOP.
