No Child Left Behind Goes Under Legislative Scrutiny on Wednesday

No Child Left BeHouseofRepsFronthind waiver requirements for the state’s teacher evaluation system will come under a legislative microscope on Wednesday. During the House Common Education Committee’s interim study several education policy experts from Oklahoma and other states will be on hand to testify.

Rep.Scooter Park is looking forward to hearing from the experts on Teacher Leader Evaluation System (TLE).

“When I was running for office, I heard an outcry from the teachers and administrators in my district that the system is broken,” said Park. “I am excited about Wednesday’s study because we are going to have an open discussion presenting all sides of this issue in order to have the complete context of the TLE system. It will be a time for legislators to listen to Oklahoma’s education community and get to the root of the problem, especially during this ongoing teacher shortage. Addressing the teacher evaluation system is crucial because it is about local control in education. Teachers must be evaluated in a professional, supportive manner, to develop every teacher to be their best. ‘Let teachers teach’ has long been a phrase of mine. If we can remove the obstacles to the well-being of teachers, the results will be a better school environment, better education for our children, and will make for happier households in our communities and ultimately a better future for Oklahomans and our state.”

Some of the topics to be discussed include Tulsa’s TLE model, cost-time benefit analysis of TLE, teacher/administrative feedback on TLE, and teacher lawsuits related to TLE.
