Wesselhoft: ‘If Trump Wins, I’m Out’

Rep. Paul Wesselhoft said today he will not support Donald Trump if Trump is the Republican nominee for president and he will resign from the GOP.

Writing on Facebook, Wesselhoft wrote:

SORRY BUT…

If Mr. Donald Trump wins the Republican nomination, I have no choice but to resign from the Republican Party!

I have been a strong, conservative, constitutional Republican for many years and served the GOP in numerous leadership positions.

However, I refuse to be an apologist for Mr. Trump in the campaign or during his four years as President if he should win. He will be a constant embarrassment to many if not most Republicans. I may not even vote for the first time.

I know some of my good friends and even my close relatives support Mr. Trump, and I apologize if you are disappointed in my decision.

However, despite many good qualities of this candidate, I strongly feel that I cannot in good conscience support Mr. Trump. I will have no choice but to leave a once great political party. Sorry but…

An embarrassment is what we have endured with the GOP during odama’s horrible term in office. They have talked a good line and DONE nothing to stop him, nothing at all. Almost all of elected to DC have talked one way on campaign trail and turned rino when then get in office in DC. If Trump is not the candidate fro the GOP, we will stay home in Nov. We’ve had it with the gop.

You aren’t a true Republican if this is how you feel. What about 40% of likely voters? This is who we want…either him or Cruz. For you to leave the GOP shows your true colors. Goodbye.

Leaving the Republican party…. and going where??? Has he looked at the options? I agree with Jan – he’s not a true Republican, and sounds like has been looking for any reason to defect and has finally found what he thinks is that excuse.

I wonder who needs to win the Democratic nomination in order to get him to join the Democrat party since he is “resigning” from the GOP.

    Dear Re. Wesselhoft,

All I can say is, “is that a threat or a promise??” Get over yourself. Do you really think Trump supporters care if you do not vote for him? Why not just resign your seat since you do not wish to represent your district if the voters there disagree with you as I am sure many if not most may actually support Trump.

This “threat” reminds me of those who say if so and so wins the election I am leaving the county. Of course they never do and if they di we would be happy about it anyway. It is more narcissistic than meaningful as it is saying LOOK AT ME, I THINK I AM IMPORTANT. reality check-NOT!!

I am a Carson supporter and then a Cruz guy but I have said I will support Jeb Bush as much as I would not like it to support the best choice against Hillary and the Dems. It is time for “all hands on deck to stop the downward slide of the American Way . If you do not see that I think you are the wrong person to represent your district as a Republican.

Does this make you a Ted Cruz supporter? If you support Marco Rubio – a stooge of the gop establishment, then you perpetuate the loser mentality of past elections. …McCain, Romney or amnesty.
