OCPA Impact TV Spot Attacks Leaders Over Medicaid Expansion, Tax Increases

By Jason Doyle Oden & Mike McCarville

A new television ad paid for by the OCPA Impact program began running this morning, with more than $20,000 invested in air time.

The ad, produced by Victory Solutions, attacks the legislature, declaring “Politicians at the State Capitol have a spending problem.” The ad features images of Governor Mary Fallin, Democratic Leader Scott Inman, and University of Oklahoma President David Boren.

“Instead of balancing the budget, they want to expand ObamaCare and increase government spending by millions,” says the ad.

Jonathan Small, president of the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs, explained the commercial to The McCarville Report: “Unfortunately we had to resort to that because as we speak, behind the scenes legislative leadership is trying to force the Republican caucuses to vote for about $1 billion in tax increases or structurally damaging one-time schemes….we are making sure to stay in touch with the non-leadership members of the House and non-leadership members of the Senate. There is growing sentiment, rightly so by non-term limited Republicans, that they are being set up again for having to support a really bad budget.”

Impact’s Dave Bond elaborated on Jason Doyle’s KTOK afternoon drive talk show and reinforced the belief that tax increases seem to be the prime goal at 23rd and Lincoln.

TMR has asked for reaction from Governor Fallin, Speaker Jeff Hickman and President Pro Tem Brian Bingman. Spokespeople for Fallin and Bingman declined to comment.

The ad concludes by urging viewers to call their state legislators and “tell them enough is enough–no new taxes.”

But they have money to build museums??? If the government were restricted to it’s proper role, many of these issues wouldn’t be issues. Do not spend more than you have and save for a rainy day is still a sound financial plan. Not adhering to it defies reason and logic. Thus, the likelihood of another agenda rears it’s ugly head.
