Storm Ravaged Counties to Get Federal Help

Governor Fallin announced Thursday that five Oklahoma counties will get help from the Small Business Administration’s disaster assistance program. Those impacted counties are Murray, Carter, Pontotoc, Garvin and Johnston counties.

From May 9 – 13th, the area was hit by tornadoes, severe storms, flooding and straight line winds. The main impact was in Murray County, but the SBA program also covers the contiguous counties.

The SBA low-interest disaster loans for homeowners and businesses will provide money to replace property damaged by the storm that was not covered by insurance or other assistance programs.

According to damage assessments, 79 homes and businesses were affected by storms in Murray County. Another 14 homes were damaged in Garvin County.
