Christian Second Run at Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office Official

As the filing period for the special Oklahoma County Sheriff’s election gets underway, one of the first to register for the race is Rep. Mike Christian. This is Christian’s second run at becoming Sheriff after losing a narrow race to incumbent Sheriff John Whetsel, who announced his retirement earlier this month.

“It’s time for some new leadership in the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s office,” said Christian. “Our jail has structural problems, but just as concerning are the administrative problems. Our tax dollars are wasted on items that have no business in a county sheriff’s office. We need to fix our jail without raising taxes, and we need to reform the way our sheriff’s office does business.”

Since announcing he would run again, Christian has been riding a wave of support. He has secured the endorsements of several Republican legislators and former Edmond Police Chief and FBI agent Bob Ricks. He’s also raised more than $75,000 for the new campaign.

The filing period ends on March 1. The primary for the special election will be held April 4.
