Howard Declares Candidacy for Senate District 38 as Schulz Faces Term Limits

Southwest Oklahoma native, Altus resident, and conservative Republican Brent Howard has announced his candidacy for Oklahoma State Senate District 38, a seat currently held by Mike Schulz who is term-limited in 2018.

Howard grew up as the fourth generation on the same farmland homesteaded by his great-grandfather before Oklahoma became a state. Howard is a graduate of rural Navajo High School, Oklahoma State University, and the University of Oklahoma College of Law. Howard obtained a Legal Masters in Taxation from New York University before returning to the state of Oklahoma to establish his legal practice.

“I was born and raised here in Southwest Oklahoma, so strengthening our economy and building a bright future for our families is important to me,” said Howard. “In the State Senate, I’ll fight to keep taxes low, strengthen our education system and eliminate wasteful spending so we can focus on the right priorities for our communities and our state.”

Howard opened his law practice in Altus to be near his family and their wheat and cattle operation. Today, he assists families as they plan for the future, helping hardworking Oklahomans navigate the complicated fields of tax law and estate planning.

“As a small business owner and tax attorney, I know that hardworking people create jobs and economic growth, not the government,” stated Howard. “We have to tackle our state’s budget crisis the right way – by targeting fraud and wasteful spending so we can continue providing essential services for our families, students and farms without raising taxes on hardworking Oklahomans.”

Brent is married to Jennifer Howard and both are active members of the First United Methodist Church of Altus, the Young Farmers and Ranchers organization within Oklahoma Farm Bureau, and the Jackson County Republican Party. Brent’s serves his community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee, as an Honorary Commander of the 54th AMW on Altus Air Force Base, as Chairman of the Board of Regents for Western Oklahoma State College, and as the Community Service Chair of Altus Rotary.
