Mullin on Federal Government Shutdown

The U.S. Senate couldn’t get its act together before the midnight deadline on a funding resolution, so the federal government has officially shut down.

Congressman Markwayne Mullin blames the Democrats’ anti-Trump attitude for the shut down.

“Certain members of Congress are so blinded by their hatred of President Donald Trump that they are willing to do anything to spite him,” said Mullin.  “Led by Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, Democrats have decided to put their immigration policies ahead of Americans citizens in order to further their political agenda.  It’s truly a shame that making such a political statement comes at the expense of our men and women in uniform and 9 million children who depend on CHIP.  Quite frankly, I think it’s a disgrace to the people they represent that they’ve chosen politics over people—and over the government functions that their constituents pay for out of their own paycheck.  Chuck and Nancy are bringing a fight to the table that doesn’t need to be at the table yet and I’m disgusted by their partisan antics that have put us in this current situation.  We can only hope that they’re finally ready to tackle the issues at hand—starting with funding our government, our troops, and our children’s health care.”

The most recent federal government shutdown was for 16 days in October 2013.
