Voter Registration Citizenship Bill Heads to Full House

A bill to help the Oklahoma State Election Board to determine if a registered voter is a citizen has passed the House Elections and Ethics Committee Wednesday. Rep. Sean Roberts’ goal with House Bill 3341 is to allow the Election Board to cross-check its voter database with other state and federal citizenship databases.

If a non-citizen is found to be registered in Oklahoma that person will be reported to the district attorney where the person is registered to vote.

“I do think it’s important for Oklahoma to make sure we don’t let potential problems go unchecked,” said Roberts. “Names of people referred to district attorneys will be exempt from the Open Records Act. The total number of referrals, however, will be public record.”

While the personal identifiable information of the person won’t be made public, a report of how many non-citizens were found on the voter registration rolls will be.

HB 3341 heads to the full House.
