Spending For, Against Step Up Oklahoma Plan Might Never Be Revealed

While the Step Up Oklahoma Revenue plan failed to get past the Oklahoma House, it did reveal one thing, a gap in state disclosure laws. Oklahoma Watch’s Paul Monies and Trevor Brown write much of the funding for and against the tax increase measure can be kept secret because state ethics law only mandates disclosures if the group is looking to influence an individual’s election or a state question. Because of the sheer amount of marketing on both sides of the issue, it is evident lots of money was spent, but just how much and by whom, might never be known.
