Oklahoma Uber Drivers Get Cash in Information Breach Settlement

The Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office announced Wednesday that 4,655 Oklahoma Uber drivers will get $100 each in a settlement over a 2016 data breach. Uber failed to report the data breath within a reasonable amount of time. All 50 states and the District of Columbia have laws on the books about how much time a company which holds personally identifiable information and experiences a breach has to notify those who are effected. Uber missed the deadline in every state.

The nationwide settlement is for $148 million to be shared with about 600,000 in all 50 states and D.C. Uber also paid the hackers to destroy the data they grabbed in the breach. Oklahoma will receive $1.14 million of the settlement to hire an administrator for the fund and to pay the drivers.
