Stitt Warns Against “Blank Check” Mentality as Equalization Board Estimates Appropriations Budget

The State Board of Equalization estimates the Legislature will have $612 million more for the next fiscal year’s budget, but the next governor of Oklahoma warns against a “blank check” mentality. The Tulsa World’s Barbara Hoberock writes Governor-elect Stitt is continuing to call for agency performance audits and notes the state still has obligations it must cover.

    That’s not a cattle stampede you here. It’s the sound of the education establishment rushing in en masse to snatch up every last dollar of possible surplus. I hope the governor holds this line on this.
