Inhofe on Defense Secretary Mattis’ Resignation

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis will leave the Trump Administration in February saying the President needed a Defense Secretary who was more aligned with his vision. The resignation letter and the timing shocked many in Washington D.C.

U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe, who is the Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman, noted that he enjoyed working with Mattis.

“Secretary Mattis led us through rebuilding our military after the readiness crisis to developing a forward thinking National Defense Strategy that prepares our military for the realities of the future. It is a shock to everyone that a career Marine with the nickname of ‘Mad Dog’ was genuine, gentle and understanding. He was devoted to the warfighter, military families and veterans. I always valued our close working relationship and our nation is better for his lifetime of service,” said Inhofe in a statement reacting to the resignation.

He served well to lay the ground work for a more modern defense. Years ago it was stated that future wars would be different and we are seeing this now. Electronic versions. Thank You Jim.
