House Approves American Legion Sales Tax Exemption

House Bill 1003 found no resistance in the Oklahoma House on Wednesday as the sales tax exemption for the American Legion Department of Oklahoma won unanimous approval. House Majority Leader Mike Sanders says the break is a long time coming for the organization.

“The American Legion has been in Oklahoma for 100 years serving our state veterans and their families as well as our youth through a variety of patriotic education programs and outreach ministries,” said Sanders. “The Legion also promotes a mission of strong national security. It deserves the same tax-exempt status that other organizations with similar missions already have.”

Sanders has filed similar legislation in the past, but the state’s finances prevented the bill from moving forward.

HB 1003 now heads to the Senate.
