Court Reporter Pay Increase Passes Senate

Court reporters were overlooked last year when lawmakers gave state employees a raise. Senate Bill 349 corrects that oversight and won approval of the Oklahoma Senate on Thursday.

Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Roger Thompson said the court reporters were left out of the pay increase because of a quick in state law.

“There are 171 court reporters in Oklahoma, and like other state employees, they had not received a pay increase since 2006.  The work they do is vital to our judiciary and the citizens who depend on it, so we wanted to make sure they would receive a raise and take steps to make sure they aren’t overlooked in the future,” said Thompson.

Those 171 court reporters will receive a $2,000 pay increase if SB 349 makes it through the Legislature and is signed by the governor. The bill also eliminates the salary cap for court reporters which caused them to be left out last session.

“I’m grateful we’ve been met with such tremendous support in this effort to give these dedicated employees their long overdue raise,” Thompson said.
