OK Supreme Court Rules Notary Not Required for Absentee Ballot

On Monday, the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled six to three that voters did not need to get their absentee ballot notarized if they use an alternative means of attestation.

NonDoc’s Tres Savage writes the majority decision found the Oklahoma State Election Board must accept the alternative affidavits outlined by a law passed by the Oklahoma Legislature in 2002.

The League of Women Voters and two Oklahoma voters sued the State Election Board over the issue. The plaintiffs contend getting an absentee ballot notarized exposed people to undue risk during events like the COVID-19 pandemic.
