Increase in Absentee Voting Showing Impact in Oklahoma County, CD5 Race

In an analysis of data and polling results, SoonerPoll founder Bill Shapard indicates the rise in absentee voting over the past three election cycles is having an impact, specifically in Oklahoma County. Shapard also concludes that as long as pollsters account for who is voting absentee, polls can accurately signal public support for a candidate or issue.

The analysis does point out that Democrats have been encouraging more use of absentee ballots, however, the COVID-19 pandemic also has Republicans on board.

Interestingly, the Fifth Congressional District has seen a significant rise in absentee voting, more than doubling from 2014 to 2016.
