Liberal Democrats Create ‘War Against Women’

[National Democrats seeking a wedge issue against Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and other Republicans have manufactured an issue: An alleged “war on women.” The Oklahoma Democratic Party and its chairman, Wallace Collins, echoes Vice President Joe Biden’s bizarre rhetoric and continues to rant about that non-existent “war against women” by Republicans. In this news release, the ODP joins the liberal Oklahoma Policy Institute to cite “evidence” of its claim, and in the second release, the ODP hypes a news conference next week to exploit its belief in this “issue.”]

According to the Oklahoma Policy Institute SB 1059, labeled “Health Care Choice Act”, authored by Senator Bill Brown and Representative Lewis Moore, has passed both House & Senate and is now in conference committee. This legislation continues a pattern of bad behavior of the Oklahoma Republican Party’s war against women.

In a blog post from the Oklahoma Policy Institute: — SB 1059 would allow the Oklahoma Insurance Department to enter into agreements with one or more states to allow the sale of insurance across state lines. The Bill also exempts these out-of-state insurers from the minimum benefits that Oklahomans are entitled to under existing state law. Oklahoma requires insurance companies to cover a handful of basic benefits. These benefits, or ‘mandates’, ensure that health insurance plans cover essential health services. The state’s mandated benefits cover preventive health services for children (immunizations), women (mammography and bone density screenings, maternity care, and annual pelvic exams and cervical cancer screenings), and those with chronic conditions (diabetes supplies, mental health treatment).
