Former Representative Dale Derby died from an accident at Oologah Lake. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the 72-year old Owasso resident was trying to swim to a drifting boat when he drowned.
Derby represented District 74 in the Oklahoma House from 2017 to 2019. He was an anesthesiologist by trade.
House Speaker Charles McCall said Derby made an impact on the Legislature during his short time in the building.
“Dale Derby was a man of honesty, character and integrity – a citizen who gave up two years of practicing medicine and financial prosperity to serve Oklahoma in hard economic times. As a member of the House, Rep. Dale Derby was a conservative solution seeker who worked with others to address issues of the state. On behalf of the House, our thoughts and prayers are with the Derby family during this tragic time,” said McCall.
