During the National Governors Association Winter Meeting, Governor Kevin Stitt took the opportunity in a virtual conversation with U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg of how the federal government would address rural transportation needs.
Stitt outlined that the state was now focused on widening rural roads to lower the number of fatalities. He asked Buttigieg for assurances that federal grant dollars would be made available to rural states for such efforts.
Buttigieg acknowledged reducing road fatalities was a necessary goal and that rural states would be given fair treatment when applying for federal assistance to help with roadway safety issues.
