Marijuana Packaging Bill Heads to Governor’s Desk

The Senate on Wednesday passed a bill which requires growers to package medical marijuana before they sell the product to dispensaries. House Bill 3361 would require the packaging to be no more than three ounces.

Senator author Senator Bill Coleman this will help crack down on illicit sales.

“This is a critical public safety measure that protects medical marijuana patients by preventing growers from selling garbage bags full of illegal product from unlicensed and unregulated entities,” Coleman said. “Nearly every item currently sold in dispensaries comes in a package to ensure consumer safety. Requiring growers to prepackage marijuana flower limits the number of people who handle the product, allows the parcels to be tracked and ensures patients know where their medicine is coming from.”

If Governor Stitt signed HB 3361, it would go into effect on June 1, 2025.
