Cole: Another Expensive Summer

By Congressman Tom Cole

Next week, we will celebrate the Fourth of July, a day when families across our country come together to celebrate the birth of our great nation and the fundamental principles that define us – freedom, unity, and limited government. Yet, under the Biden Administration, the American people will experience yet another expensive Fourth of July and summer all together.

Nevertheless, although skyrocketing prices have continued to crush American families over the past few years, it does not seem as though lowering inflation has really been a priority for this Administration. However, it should be.

Since President Biden took office, prices have skyrocketed by 20.1 percent, while real wages remain lower than four years ago. Not only is gas up 55.3 percent, but so are basic family necessities like eggs, which are up 40.1 percent, flour, which is up 34.8 percent, and chicken, which is up 24 percent. Not to mention, airfare is up by 29.9 percent, electricity is up 29 percent, eating out is up 22.2 percent, and housing affordability has plummeted to record lows.

These numbers do not lie – President Biden’s economic policies are truly devastating American families.

This cannot continue.

In my recently appointed position as Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for making many of the spending decisions for the federal government, I am working to reverse the Democrats’ inflationary policies by providing much needed oversight over the Biden Administration’s reckless spending habits and ensuring the taxpayer dollar is being spent wisely. As a fiscal conservative and budget hawk, I know we must change course, and I will continue to work to do just that.
