OK Senate Passes Bill to Tie Increased Education Funding to Extended Classroom Instruction

Senate Bill 409 would tie public school funding increases to more time in the classroom for students. The Oklahoma Senate passed the measure this week.

SB 409 author Senator Adam Pugh says for every $25 million added to public school funding by the Legislature, public schools would add a day of instruction to the calendar.

Tulsa World’s Steve Metzer writes while Pugh received some pushback from Senate Democrats, his intent is to catch up with the national average for instructional days for students.
