Trump’s Indian Education Funds Order Concerns Some Okla. Tribal Leaders

Tribal leaders attending this week’s United Indian Nations of Oklahoma quarterly meeting in Catoosa raised concerns about the potential impact of President Donald Trump’s executive order which instructs the Bureau of Indian Education and other agencies to find ways to allow families to use federal funds for private schools. That includes faith-based schools.

Tulsa World’s Lenzy Krehbiel-Burton writes National Indian Education Association federal policy director Julia Wakeford also raised a concern that there is no clarity on how the federal government will distribute the funds, directly to Indian families or through the tribal governments.
