A new Oklahoma law updating criminal statutes related to bombs and explosive devices has been signed into law.
House Bill 4142, authored by Oklahoma Representative Robert Manger and Oklahoma Senator Kelley Hines, revises state law involving the unlawful use of explosive and incendiary devices.
The measure updates legal definitions tied to explosive devices, adds criminal conspiracy provisions for individuals planning to place explosive devices and includes protections for lawful uses involving explosives.
“Public safety laws must keep pace with the realities law enforcement officers face today,” Manger said. “This legislation closes gaps in existing law by addressing conspiracy to place explosive devices while also clearly protecting lawful uses.”
Manger, who chairs the House Judiciary and Public Safety Oversight Committee, said the legislation is intended to strengthen public safety laws while ensuring legitimate activities involving explosives are not affected.
The law takes effect Nov. 1.
